An important phase of the KarRC RAS Director General election procedure completed

The Electoral Commission has summarized the results of the voting for the election of the Director General of KarRC RAS. The turnout exceeded 80% of the Center's employees. The majority of votes, 391, were cast for Alexander Kryshen, Director of the Forest Research Institute. Acting Director General Olga Bakhmet was supported by 252 voters, and Deputy Director General Yuri Zaika received 17 votes. The Electoral Commission documented these results in its report, which will be submitted to the HR Policy Department of the Federal Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The candidacies will now undergo the procedure of approval by federal agencies, after which the employment contract will be signed with the winner of the competition.
On June 17th, the Electoral Commission had an open meeting regarding the results of the vote for the KarRC RAS Director General role. The candidates running for the role are Acting Director General of KarRC RAS Olga Bakhmet, Deputy Director General of KarRC RAS Yuri Zaika, and Director of the Forest Research Institute KarRC RAS Alexander Kryshen. The chair, deputy chair, and secretary of the Commission were elected by the Learned Council. The Commission included deputy directors of all scientific subdivisions. The election results were presented to the meeting participants by Pavel Druzhinin, Chairman of the Electoral Commission, announced the results of the vote.

The total number of eligible voters on the list was 823, of which 661 have voted. Only one ballot was deemed invalid, and 660 were recognized as valid.

As a result, O. Bakhmet received 252 votes, Yu. Zaika 17 votes, A. Kryshen 391 votes.

– The number of persons who voted at the election of KarRC RAS Director General was 661, which is more than half of the Centre’s employees, ascertaining the validity of the election. The candidacy of Alexander Kryshen is recognized as having received the most votes. The report has been drawn up accordingly and will be submitted to the HR Policy Department of the Federal Ministry of Science and Higher Education, - announced the Electoral Commission Chairman.

According to the electoral procedure, as Acting Director General Olga Bakhmet explained, the next step of the election campaign will be to submit the Electoral Commission Report to the HR Policy Department of the Federal Ministry of Science and Higher Education, which will organize the following steps in the DG election process. This may take several months. Olga Bakhmet thanked the employees for active participation and high turnout.

“This phase of the election campaign gave us an opportunity to discuss quite a few issues. This will be very useful for the Centre on its way forward”, – the CEO said".

Alexander Kryshen, in his speech, stressed the seamless work of the Electoral Commission and also remarked that meetings with the Centre’s employees have been very effective.
– Meetings with the staff have provided many important insights. These discussions had fine and friendly vibes. The voter turnout and distribution of votes indicate a clear need for a renewal and addressing certain issues. One more phase is over, lots of approvals now need to be obtained, and no matter what our ministry decides, this election campaign fortnight was not in vain, – Alexander Kryshen concluded.

Admissions for 2026/2027 doctoral studies at KarRC RAS are underway

On June 20, Karelian Research Centre began accepting applications for doctoral studies. A total of 8 full-time positions are available this year, 6 of which are state-funded. The submission deadline is July 2.

Scientists of the Karelian Research Centre RAS propose restoring Karelian forests using locally sourced and bred planting stock

Scientists of the KarRC RAS took part in a meeting of the Head of the Republic of Karelia, Artur Parfenchikov, with representatives of the scientific community, members of the regional Legislative Assembly, as well as heads of the republic’s agencies, enterprises, and organizations dealing with reforestation.
Speaking at the meeting, KarRC RAS CEO Olga Bakhmet and Director of the Forest Research Institute KarRC RAS Boris Raevsky focused on research results, analyzed the situation with forest regeneration in Karelia, and proposed recommendations for augmenting and accelerating forest regeneration using domestic production of seeds and seedlings.

KarRC RAS leader Olga Bakhmet gave a talk at a working meeting with the leadership of the Kurchatov Institute, ministers, and CEOs of Karelian enterprises and organizations, chaired by the Head of the Republic of Karelia, Artur Parfenchikov. The talk focused on the development of technologies for bioeconomy and their application in bio-ecovillages.
